Indian side triumphed by 88 runs
Team India preserved their perfect beginning to the Women's World Cup via a comprehensive 88-run victory versus traditional opponents Pakistan in Colombo.
Harleen Deol top-scored scoring 46 as Richa Ghosh hammered 35 not out from 20 balls in the closing stages to lift India up to 247 runs in an innings that saw numerous batters make starts but not continuing.
Bowler Diana Baig secured 4/69 while Pakistan dismissed India out premierly in women's one-day international from the last ball of their knock however a maiden victory still eludes them.
Post dropping to 26/3 in the run chase, Pakistan momentarily fought back through Sidra Amin - who proceeded to score 81 in 105-ball innings after receiving chances three times - along with Natalia Pervaiz added 69 runs for the fourth partnership.
However India, guided by Goud's three for twenty, persisted with their plan to bowl out the Pakistani team for 159 during the 43rd over and move top of the group table.
As is so often the case when these rivals face each other, though, there was far more to the match, amid controversy and confusion sprinkled during the match...
Dismissal Dispute
Probably the most significant discussion point emerged from an incident in the beginning of Pakistan's innings as opening batter Ali was controversially dismissed via run out.
The southpaw got hit on the pad by Goud when the bowler from India made an unsuccessful appeal for lbw, Sharma collected the loose ball and threw at the stumps.
She struck however video evidence revealed Muneeba had grounded her bat ahead of the ball was even in the picture and a 'not out' decision from the match official Klaaste appeared on the big screen at the stadium.
Nevertheless, before the game restarted, the decision was looked at again and it became apparent that while the ball hit the stumps and removed the bails, the batter had elevated her equipment and was positioned out of her crease.
Although the player had already grounded her bat and wasn't attempting to steal a run, the third umpire altered her ruling to 'out' and notwithstanding Pakistani objections, which involved captain Fatima Sana direct her hitter not to leave the field briefly, the batter had to exit.
Adding another layer, had India simply reviewed the lbw decision, the whole controversy would have been avoided since ball-tracking indicated Muneeba was clearly out LBW.
What do the regulations of the game say?
30.1 Concerning leaving the crease
Section 30.1.1 A player shall be deemed as having left their crease unless some part of their body or bat is grounded behind the line at that side.
Rule 30.1.2 Nevertheless, a batter shall not be considered as having left their crease when, during running or diving toward their ground and past, and having grounded an element of the player or equipment past the batting crease, there follows loss of connection between the field and any element of their body or bat, or between equipment and player.
'Incorrect toss announcement'
Confusion as Pakistan wrongly given toss against India
It ought to have been obvious that events would not become uncomplicated in this contest starting with the coin flip.
Against a backdrop of governmental disputes among the two nations, that skippers Sana and Harmanpreet declined to shake hands was no surprise - especially given the previous instances in recent games between the men's sides.
However, no-one could have predicted that Sana would announce wrongly yet gain the flip.
The team leader called out "tails" as Harmanpreet flicked the coin but match referee Shandre Fritz misheard and declared "heads called".
Presenter and former cricketer Jones was managing the toss and repeated the referee's statement, the coin fell heads up and the announcement came that Pakistan secured the flip.
Neither captain questioned it thus Sana could come forward and affirm that the Pakistani side would chase.
An innocent mistake and since India triumphed regardless, no harm done.
